CCCT 2012 - July 26/12 - Day 68

Cross Canada Cycling Tour - Thursday, July 26, 2012 - Day 68
Thessalon to Massey, ON - Trip 130.66 kms Time 7 hrs 24 mins Avg 17.64 kph Max 47.3 kph
We got up at 6:00 AM. I had heard Gigi get up at 5:00 AM and start preparing breakfast. We went down for breakfast at 6:30 AM. There was raisin bread French toast, fresh fruit, bacon, juice, etc. Gerard had put our photo, which he had taken yesterday, in their Guest Book and left it on the breakfast table for us to add a comment which I did. I had left if for Bev to do but she passed it over to me as she had done the Guest Book comment at Velorution. We finished packing, carried our panniers out to the garage, where we had left our bikes, and loaded our gear on them. We left for MASSEY at 7:30 AM. The skies were overcast which made for a cool start to the day. We had a nice paved shoulder. We stopped at a "Rest Area" and enjoyed half of the date square which we had purchased at the restaurant the night before. We met a young cyclist going West. He looked and sounded a bit tired of cycling. We stopped at a Motel/Ice Cream stand for lunch. I went into the OFFICE to see about cold drinks. The manager was busy with two other "fishing" customers. I checked the fridge but there were only Pepsi, Cokes and Minnows for fish bait in it. He later came out and apologized for ignoring me. When I told him I was looking for a cold, refreshing drink, such as Dole Grapefruit juice, he went back to the OFFICE and came back with some grape juice and 2 glasses which he offered us for FREE. In spite of a head wind we arrived in Massey at 5:00 PM. There were only 2 motels in town to chose from, 1 restaurant and 3 convenience stores plus the LCBO. After purchasing two cold beers at the LCBO we checked into the Massey Motel at $68.50 + tax. I was able to get on the Internet using the motel wi-fi and we checked our e-mail. There was no word from Eric regarding his sister's address, etc in Sudbury. We walked over to the Dragonfly Restaurant for dinner. No license - No booze. I had veal parmigiana, veggies and mashed potatoes. Bev had pasta. The restaurant featured very interesting decor in both the Men's and Women's washrooms. The walls were covered all over with bric-a-brac and all sorts of memorabilia. I saw a Newfie chainsaw in the Men's. It was a crosscut saw with a chain instead of a blade! We walked to the grocery store for an ice cream. The soft ice cream was very soft. My strawberry sundae was dripping all over. We walked back to the motel and I worked on my blog before going off to bed at 10:00 PM.
